Sizzling Summer Saturdays and the many vegetables for grilling!

~ Revised Copy ~ July 22, 2014
Happy Long Weekend, North America!

Whether it is your Canada Day long weekend, or fourth of July holiday,
let’s celebrate and enjoy a little taste of Summer.

It’s barbeque time… Move over that meat, we need room for the veggies!

Spring Salad

Welcome to the first installment of our "Sizzling Summer Saturdays" blog posts!

I am a big fan of barbeque. Yes, meat, chicken, seafood, veggies… I love it all! In honor of the Eat. portion of the blog, what better way to celebrate the fabulous home grown foods of summer than with a bit of barbequing!

Outdoor grilling is my most favorite way to cook, especially during the hot months of the summer. Seeing as the first of our Summer long weekends has now arrived and the season for grilling is upon us, what a great time to talk about eating the many wonderful vegetable treasures that I talk so much about growing. Read on, to find out which veggies I choose for grilling and my favorite ways to grill them!

The unsquared of square foot garden spacing

Honestly, I have been a bit reluctant to show off my latest little urban organic gardening experiment for fear of exposing the bare nakedness and somewhat ‘thrown together’ confinements of my little square foot garden space.

The Garden

Well, it was originally supposed to be planted as a square foot garden…  Somewhere amid my seeding adventures this spring, it became a little unsquared it seems.  Really, there isn't much about my garden this year that is square apart from the packets full of seeds I have crammed into my little 8 X 10 vegetable rectangle.

My vegetable garden ate my blog...

Or this, at least, is what I am blaming my absence on! I am such a kid... lol. Between work, family and getting the garden planted, time for writing has been sparse.

Here is a quick look into the kitchen garden and a little taste of what I (and my vegetable garden) have been up to...

Thai Basil

The highlight of this summer's herb garden is the Thai Basil, I am so-so-so in love with this herb! The aroma this Basil sets off is amazing... Whether catching the scent walking by in the yard, or wafting from the kitchen, this Thai Basil is like no other Basil I have ever tried. If you have the pleasure of finding some for yourself, be sure to grab it!
